We have recently moved to the city of our dreams. My husband and I both love the music scene and we both love Texas, so naturally the best place for us would be Austin! Austin is the capital of Texas, but in my opinion is is the coolest city in Texas and possibly even the coolest city in the world. We have been wanting to move there since we graduated college, but the opportunity never presented itself. Last month, we got a call that my husband had a job offer there. We immediately took it and started looking for a great place to live. We ended up finding a really funky condo. It is perfect and suits our personality as a couple. It is not something that our parents would have picked. It is a loft condo and we are going to fill it with contemporary furniture. Other than picking out great furniture, the place is move in ready. The only thing that I want to do is to call AUSTIN TX HOME SECURITY and have an alarm system put in. I just can’t wait to start our new lives in Austin.

So 3 months Down Under is ending... i wonder what's next? So many things that need to be done and possibly require me to be in 1 location... but... screw that... i think i'll try to get to New Zealand as quickly as i can...!!! And for a 6 month stretch, too! AND... check out Henessey Hammocks... i will defo be getting one of those! For use in my bedroom if i can clear out the required space!!! YEE HAAA!!!

A Thanksgiving is incomplete without pumpkin pie!

Thanksgiving this year definitely isn't the first time this season that I've had pumpkin pie. I love to have it just as regular dessert for dinner. I've made it a few times this fall already. It's just such an easy and delicious dessert to fix!

I'm always the one that brings the dessert to our big family Thanksgiving, along with a few other things. But I thought that this year it might be really fun to try and make a different version of pumpkin pie. So I looked with my wireless internet Blue Springs to see if I could find a variation.

As you can guess, I can more than a few variations of pumpkin pie to fix. But out of everything, I think that I'm going to fix a chocolate pumpkin pie. You can't ruin anything with chocolate, so IÕm sure that itÕs going to be fantastic! Or at least if all of my family members donÕt like it, IÕll be taking it home anyway to enjoy the rest of it for myself. I had a pie like that once so I know that IÕll enjoy it.

Our Yard Renovation

It seems like our big yard renovation has been a long time in the making because it has. We didn't get started nearly as soon as we would have liked on it and it ends up that we aren't getting to enjoy it that much with cool weather right around the corner. But regardless, I'm really excited about it and I think that it looks amazing!

We chose to do a lot of the stuff ourselves, which may have been why it took us so long to do it. But I think that we saved some money in the end that way. We also noticed while we were doing that, that our windows were looking pretty shabby against all those new bushes and flowers we planted. So we went online to find some good replacement window prices and found SEARS home pro improvement. After we talked it over we went with them for our windows.

Now not only do we have a nice yard renovation, we also have some great new windows up against it, too. I'm grateful for that because we're hosting family Thanksgiving this year.

I wasn’t sure what to get my best friend for her birthday because she was so hard to shop for. Basically, she has everything she’ll ever need because she buys it all for herself! But she recently started a job where she works from home a lot and since we’re roommates, I thought it would be nice to sign her up for mobile broadband. She’s always yapping about how she doesn’t like our dial up and how her smart phone is too small, anyway. So I found a good deal online and wrapped up the box – she was shocked when she opened it! She’s not usually the type to be speechless but she clearly didn’t even know what to say! Aside from the time her boyfriend got her that puppy, I definitely think it’s her favorite gift ever, so I’m totally satisfied with her reaction. And it’s a win win since I live with her and will get to use the internet connection, too! She hasn’t really figured that part out yet…don’t tell her!

Woah! Of all the uses for the mighty soy-bean! Besides being touted as being able to prevent certain cancers... it can now be used in candle-making!

What else. I Have been making stuff, albeit a little slowly. Lots of things to design (not handmade) lots of prize money up for grabs and lots of poems to write. Also, lots of things to read, friends to suddenly catch up with (sch holidays -_-) and just basically I am busy up to my very flat nose.

Pc crash, a new one that doesn't really work (thanks to Microsoft's silly new programming for Windows Vista. A crap program with pretty clothes, I tell ya) very hot days, lethargy and perspiring right out of the shower. Further, a messy corner, lack of space (but that could be due to my unwillingness to pack and repack) compounded with general laziness to take and post pictures of my new stuff, both made and bought.

I expect to be MIA online for a bit. This new Vista thing is putting me off the computer altogether. Plus, thanks to bored friends and cousins, I have suddenly found my speaking voice again. In the previous few months, all it was used for was to order food.

Cheerios, and I'll see y'all whenever. Maybe at Fort Canning next weekend (9/ 10 June) ART MARKET! Woohoo! Hope it's a good one!

Off to do some soul-searching.

Hauled home 11 volumes of graphic books from the Library. Two of which are by Jean Jacques Sempe (a cartoon illustrator and the guy who worked on Asterix). I had to leave the third behind because i forgot to return Dennis the Menace! I think I am in love. A review of his new books here.

Also, I discovered I'm not the only freak (I suppose that word has now been rendered inappropriate) who thinks in metaphor. I just have to work a bit (sometimes a lot) harder than some others to explain it. Ha ha.

Last night, before I went to bed, I thought, for a person whose heart and head scream different things at the same volume at the same time, I wonder what I'm listening to. Throw in irresponsible external voices, and it's bloody chaos!

Usually when one is pulled in different directions they end up nowhere with a set of broken limbs to boot. LOL.

That said, wandering has it's virtues as long as you have an anchor (and a reasonable sense of direction).

Took a solo cycling trip all the way down to Bugis MRT (several weeks back) and proceeded to Haji Lane on foot. Great finds at Arab Street; also made a pit stop at Little India along the way to poke around the enclave.

Discovered the location of the arts belt at Kerbau Rd. and chatted with someone in a little gallery showcasing Indian Art. She was painting in a back room. Very nice! Scribbled the artists' names somewhere. They're having their own exhibition sometime this year (was it March or June?) butI forgot my camera so I'll have to go back there and visit again. Hoho.

'Till the next expedition! I wonder where I should head next.

This Chinese New Year's eve was spent camping out in the hospital lounge,
and a mad flurry to the mortuary and home and back to grandma's place to set up the funeral. Sitting at the void deck folding some 2 billion dollar hell notes and chuckling at jokes about the inflation rate in the afterlife. LOL. Some rituals, i suspect, are more to help the mourners than the mourned.

Much time for zoning out as the fingers went fold, press and flick. Inevitably, the mind wanders.
Is my lack of tears (in the midst of some very painful blubbering) a delayed reaction or a sign of a steel heart? Perhaps, I certainly can't tell yet. But there are worse deaths to die, and in worse ways.

So, Grandpa, i pictured you with a happy feast in the sky. You had (have? :)) your good ol' appetite back and were(are) fit as a fiddle, free to 'roam'. Fine food at the heavenly banquet and brazen jigs with the Lord of the dance. And just maybe, we can finally understand each other despite my gross ineptitude at dialect.

As far as i feel, you're just beginning a better life. Woohoo!

Why I still read kiddy books

I grew up reading the Hungry Caterpillar and Mr Men and Little Miss books (and sometimes the Berenstein bears). I loved them! (Still do). They are so simple, with funny and had great illustrations. Sunday afternoons were spent curled up on the sofa with dog-eared copies of Calvin and Hobbes from the church library.

In my primary-school years and teens, while my friends were reading more 'mature' fare such as Hellen Keller and adult fiction I was still surviving on staples of Hardy boys (haha yeah, that corny but entertaining ghostwriter series), Archie Comics and other picture books. My writing never suffered. Of course, it was a bit of a strain to write 'serious, adult fiction' as my education progressed (and I was always awed by contemporaries who could), but that isn't one of my interests anyway. Besides, my critical, General Paper pieces always had weight.

I am not ashamed to say I browse the kiddy section in libraries (to the consternation of real kids. Haaa!)

"Have you downgraded? Are you reading your (much younger) sister's books??!" people ask me. The truth is, I've never really 'advanced'. The childrens'/ youth book market is so varied and thriving, and there is much to explore.

The most prolific writers, for me, have usually written successful children's books at some point in their career. It boils down to their ability to weave ideas and insight into palatable, digestible fare. The good ones throw in apt descriptions and words which make you pick up the dictionary, without overwhelming the reader with convoluted sentences.

Sometime in my teens I was given adult books to read (by some friends who thought i needed some exposure to more intellectual reading material). These consisted of thick volumes of Agatha Christie, Sidney Sheldon and the like (some other 'famous' authors, but so repulsive they have been wiped from my conscious memory. This includes the ubiquitous Singapore Ghost Stories, and Crime files, something like that. Eeurgh).

I remember being mostly paralysed by fear (the result of a very vivid imagination - re: Snow White scares me) and with horny images drifting around my head. Are gore and (WHINY, vindictive and unneccessarily complicated) love triangles something to be appreciated?
Certainly not for me. Especially when the novels eventually degenerate (some people call it the climax) into a customary roll in the haystack when the writers run out of ideas.

So in the cesspit of adult fiction, Thank God for these writers, artists and works; they make me think, laugh and aspire to greater things - I hope they do the same for you.

He is secretly envious of all the attention BBang gets from the girls, as BBoy's own talents constitute running around making (unpleasant) noises. But boy, can he run. Must be all that practice escaping from irate prank-ees.

Elvis is another performer at the PokeyJokey nightclub (yes, they are that popular), and fancies himself the real thing! Complete with a cowlick curl and a southern drawl, he loves mingling with the ladies and being the center of attention while boogeying to 70's music. However the big draw seems to be Pokey & Jokey, and Elvis usually finds his ladies flocking over to the stage when the laughs start. Poor Elvis! So he is on the lookout for another job as resident singer/idol/entertainer. Maybe it could be at your home?

Ponce 'Poncey Dunce'

Dunce's real name is really 'Ponce'! He's really nothing much like a real ponce, though, and as mentioned before, he Bonce's smaller-brained cousin, so that's what Bonce calls him! He is jolly and loveable, but really is quite daft, and that can get a little frustrating at times. He also likes a good pint of beer. He earns it by doing a nightly stand-up comedy routine with Bonce. They go by the stage names Pokey and Jokey. Hee hee! Dunce has had Bonce rescue him from his bumbling ways many a time, but thinks that his cousin could have more fun if he'd only lighten up and bumble along with him... some of the time.

Bonce is Dunce's cousin and on-off pal! He may seem pretty temperamental and can be stingy at times. But all for a good cause! He has to keep Dunce out of trouble (caused by stupidity) and they are always hungry. So he's got to stinge for meal-time! Ponce rather clever and is forever going about his mercenary entrepreneurial activities (when your back is turned, of course!). He does a stand-up routine with Dunce every night, and he hated it initially, but is slowly beginning to open up and enjoy himself.

Muffet likes to bake! So you can always be sure of good food, cookies and that you (and the other residents :p) will be well-fed and well looked after. Whoo! Smell my cooky breath, she says. Ha Ha! Muffet will also keep you company on those long working (or studying) nights or sit quietly by your bedside. If not, she will be busy gathering food crumbs and cleaning the house!

Nimmy is shy and has a cute little mole on her right cheek a la Cindy Crawford. She is a good listener, too! Although she rarely emits more than a giggle and a few sweet words she is playful and has a great sense of style (so you can ask her what to wear when you have to go out).
